Why? Because it was the first time that game worn patches were cut up and attached to a player’s baseball card!

This innovation has become a staple in modern sports card products.

Only 3 players had game worn jersey patches in the inaugural innovation:
Ken Griffey Jr, Tony Gwynn, and Rey Ordonez.

Upper Deck lists the odds of pulling a game worn jersey patch in this series at only 1 in 800 packs.

As of the time of this writing, Ken Griffey Jr Game Jersey Cards (in raw/ungraded form) regularly sell for $1500+ with high graded examples selling for several thousand dollars.
