A 1985 O Pee Chee Series 1 “GPK” wax box, is one of the most coveted (non-sport) authenticated unopened products that exists in the trading card industry.

In fact, many vintage unopened collectors/investors commonly refer to this extremely scarce box as a “White Whale”.

When speaking with BBCE in December of 2022, in regards to the rarity of 1985 Garbage Pail Kids Series 1 wax boxes, it was estimated that slightly over 50+ Topps GPK Series 1 BBCE authenticated wax boxes exist, as compared to only 11 existing O Pee Chee GPK Series 1 BBCE authenticated wax boxes.

There are currently 1441 Topps Series 1 GPK wax packs that have been authenticated/graded by PSA, yet PSA has only authenticated/graded 117 of the O Pee Chee (sometimes abbreviated as OPC) Series 1 GPK wax packs.

Research has shown that the Topps and OPC wax box versions of this product both included 48 sealed wax packs and the respective checklists from each brand was nearly identical.

However, there were/are two significant differences between the brand versions. For one, the O Pee Chee box and pack wrappers have both English and French-Canadian translations. Also, Topps packs contain 5 cards and 1 thick slab of gum, whereas the O Pee Chee packs contain 4 cards and 1 thin slab of gum.
